Alternative Students attended the fourth annual Choices, Chances and Changes Conference for alternative education students throughout the state. The entire day focused on youth issues with several sessions run by student and adult presenters. The conference was held at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Twelve sessions were held and students could select two sessions to attend. Mannford students attended the African drumming and learned the method used by African drummers. They also attended the Oklahoma State University, Entomology (bugs!) session. They met insects and their relatives up close and personal; including a 10-inch millipede!
State Superintendent Sandy Garrett welcomed students to the conference during the lunch hour. She discussed the state of alternative education in Oklahoma and how it serves as a model for alternative education across the country.
The conference was free to students and was hosted by the Oklahoma Technical Assistance Center (OTAC) of Cushing. Conference co-sponsors included the Oklahoma Alternative Education Association, Rogers State College, and several private donors.
Students and sponsors who attended were: Nichole Avey, Richard Brant, Jacob Caldwell, James Johnson, Beau Orcutt, Lynnette Sisco, Adam Wojtyna, Gail Schauer, Teacher, Charles Hewlett, Counselor.
